WISE North East Hub Launch Event

The WISE regional hubs are being set up around the country to give women and men in STEM a local network to get involved with.

These will be local events with inspirational speakers. The local hubs will give people the opportunity to meet easily to discuss issues, share success strategies and also inspire girls at local schools about the great career opportunities available for women in science and engineering. This will help forge strong links between schools, universities and STEM industries in the local area.

If you are interested in setting up a hub with WISE in your area, please contact the Membership Team at info@wisecampaign.org.uk

The WISE North East of England hub was launched in September 2016. Our steering group includes businesses and educational establishments and together we aim to create a local network to inspire girls to study and build careers in STEM, to support women already in STEM careers, and to support organisations who wish to focus on the inclusion and diversity of their workforce. Our events are open to members or non-members who are interested in enhancing the diversity of STEM industries and supporting and promoting women in science and engineering. Women in STEM Plymouth is proud to be the WISE hub for our area. We are a network formed to ultimately increase the number of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) roles within the Plymouth travel-to-work-area. We do this in three main ways: promoting the fantastic work of women in STEM within our local area; supporting those women by providing a network of like-minded individuals; and inspiring more women and girls to embark on a STEM career.

The WISE Aberdeen hub launched in January 2018, with bi-monthly meet-ups planned at the Aberdeen Science Centre. The group aims to support and encourage girls and women into rewarding careers in STEM, and welcomes participation from both men and women. See the Facebook page for details of how to get involved. The hub co-exists with the well-established AXIS Network, a group formed to promote the vision of a gender balanced Aberdeen energy industry. Join the AXIS Network Facebook group to be kept up to date.

We are still keen to get further WISE representation in Aberdeen for all stages of careers – please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

WISE Hubs coming soon

With a steering group in place, the WISE North West hub will be announcing its plans in the coming months.

The hub is initiated and led by Zoe Stericker of BAM Nuttall Ltd: "The WISE NW Hub has the potential to drive change across STEM industries within the North West. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all involved and I’m really excited to see what we can do in the coming months. We have held our first Steering Group meeting and will be focusing on how we can increase women in senior roles, improve return to work following career breaks and making our industries attractive to girls looking to choose their future careers."
