The WISE campaign is pleased to announce the new WISE Young Women’s Board. 7 new members were selected from over 80 exceptional applications.
6 August 2015
The new members will join our existing Board members, Lucy Collins (Chair), Siận Cleaver, Sasha Roberts and Vedika Dalmia and will continue to support young women to be successful as they enter the STEM workforce and navigate through their early careers.
The new board members include Zipporah Stephen, a business analyst at Intel Corporation, who graduated with a first class honours in Mathematics with Computer Science and believes that “Technology companies need women not just for the detail oriented dedication they bring but to also improve diversity and thereby increase productivity”.
New board member Emma Thomas, M&E Engineering & Support Senior Engineer for Virgin Media believes that her route into Engineering (BTEC qualification) and experiences volunteering for an educational outreach programme, Engineers without Borders, will help to support and inspire girls and women, to openly consider a career in STEM, without the personal barriers of feeling unconfident or unable to join in.
Emma believes that “STEM subjects can be a force for good, as they can progress medical research, which saves lives and help to alleviate communities out of poverty, through the use of appropriate technology.”
The WISE Young Women’s Board are a great resource for the WISE campaign to reach their target of one million more women in the UK STEM workforce.
The first board meeting will take place at the WISE Conference in London on 12 November 2015..
The WISE Young Women’s Board can be contacted via WISE on info@wisecampaign.org.uk or 01274 724009.
