Over 50 people from schools, universities, societies and industry joined WISE corporate members including Rolls-Royce, Atkins, Babcock, Skanska and WSP.

The event was hosted by WISE partnership Director Lynne Palmer:

“The WISE Hubs are being set up around the country to give women in STEM a local network to get involved with. These will be local events with inspirational speakers. The local hubs will give women the opportunities to meet easily to discuss issues, share success strategies and also inspire girls at local schools about the great career opportunities available for women in science and engineering. This will help forge strong links between schools, universities and STEM industries in the local area.”

Jayne Little, Managing Director, Skills 4 Ltd provided a summary of the 4 day Career Development Programme for women which encouraged women to be aware of the way they communicate and to take opportunities for career progression.

Sarah Long, Principal Engineer at design, engineering and project management consultancy Atkins, gave a personal account of how the Programme had benefitted her career.

Sarah Behanna, teacher, led discussion about how the WISE Bristol Hub could inspire girls into a STEM career.

Kathleen McGillycuddy, Assistant Headteacher, Orchard School Bristol commented:

“It was wonderful to see women keen on supporting other young women to be successful - it is a potentially powerful force. It can only benefit the brilliant young women in my charge who have a whole world out there to discover.”

WISE would like to pass on sincere thanks to the University of Bristol for hosting the event and Atkins for providing the refreshments.
