WISE celebrates 30 years
During the year, we will celebrate progress, review and refresh aspirations for where we want to be in the next 30 years.
Things have moved on since 1984, when only 7% of those studying engineering at UK universities were female, but there is a long way to go if we are to achieve the critical mass of 30% women in the science, technology and engineering workforce. We urge everyone who shares our passion for making a positive difference to the numbers to join us in a powerful alliance for change.
New Year Pledge
At 00:01 on the 1st January we started a campaign on Twitter to ask our followers to make a pledge for 2014. We can all make a contribution towards the UK’s STEM workforce being 30% female by 2020. Everyone can do something to make a difference, however big or small.
Thank you to everyone who has already made a pledge. Here are a couple:
"I will show all the kids I work with how amazing STEM is regardless of gender." Sian Henderson, WP Officer at the University of Surrey
"This year, I will give a talk to the girls in my local school about opportunities in engineering." Katarina Drobnjakovic, Biomedical Software Engineering Student
