Who are Renewable Energy Systems Limited?
RES is one of the world’s leading independent renewable energy companies. Our vision is a future where everyone has access to affordable low carbon energy.
Established in the 1980’s within the UK’s Sir Robert McAlpine engineering and construction group, today RES operates globally with offices in 10 countries.
RES has developed and/or built over 13GW of renewable energy capacity worldwide, which is equivalent to powering 9 million homes and to saving 16 million tonnes of carbon each year. We contribute to a clean energy economy by developing, constructing and operating renewable wind and solar projects and investing in enabling technologies including energy storage.
As early pioneers of wind turbine technology, we are proud to have been innovators in the development of the global renewable energy market.
What projects / schemes / initiatives to support women's recruitment, retention and progression in STEM are Renewable Energy Systems Limited involved in?
Encouraging people to fulfil their potential and develop their skills is a key part of RES’ ethos and is closely allied to our efforts to understand and encourage diversity in the workplace.
For RES educating and engaging the next generation about sustainability and the environment is essential, we recognise the importance of this in encouraging more women into STEM subjects. RES has hosted regular school visits to our low carbon head office, as well as to wind farms and also sponsored an ‘Innovation Lab’ at West Herts college with a 3D digital printer. At the launch of the innovation lab our STEM ambassadors supported female pupils from the nearby Abbot’s Hill School who took part in STEM workshops run by students from the college.
For our staff RES demonstrates its commitment and support by championing International Women in Engineering Day, bringing together women in technical and engineering roles globally for informal lunch time forum sessions and sharing stories with the business via podcasts and interviews.
We have a number of senior female managers in the business and we use our internal communications channels to raise their profiles and the roles they fulfil so that they can act as role models to other female employees.
Why did Renewable Energy Systems Limited join WISE?
"As an engineer I’m a great advocate of the profession and recognise that women have been underrepresented. RES fully supports the WISE aspiration which aligns with our commitment to gender balance in STEM to create outperformance and resilience in our business and the renewables industry."
