Jamie is 21 and has recently entered the 4th year of her apprenticeship, after commencing employment at MBDA following completion of her A-Level’s.
She found a career path in STEM after competing in the world skills mobile robotics, and subsequently she met employees from MBDA, who inspired her to take the path of engineering. At work Jamie is currently finishing the last of her 3 month placements around the business. She has worked in the following departments: Purchasing, Trials, Customer Support, Product Definition, Drawing Office, Electronic Packaging, Materials, Quality and Mechanical analysis.
From these placements Jamie has completed a wide range of work tasks, from analysing procurement statistics, assisting and conducting trials, working with the field support team, completing complex drawings for parts and assemblies, conducting simulation on straight to product parts, and she also completed laboratory analysing and tests on various parts and materials.
In January Jamie is due to enter her final placement, which has been decided to be within the Trials department. When Jamie undertook her initial placement in trials, she had the opportunity to take on further responsibilities within the department, as well as the chance to carry out her own trial.
Jamie also attends college on day release. She has just commenced her HND in mechanical engineering, after achieving all distinctions across her HNC as well as receiving the Higher Education Award by the college.
Jamie takes part in a variety of STEM activities, including attending school events to run activity sessions. She also visits The John Warner School Robotics Club in her free time to mentor the students as well as to assist them in CAD, programming and log-booking.
Outside of work, Jamie enjoys drawing and making digital artworks with the aid of her computer and graphics tablet.”
