International Women in Engineering Day 2017 - Member Round-up

On Friday 23 June, WISE and WISE members across the UK, held special events and activities to celebrate International Women In Engineering Day #INWED17.

The day focused attention on the amazing careers in engineering and technical roles for girls, and allowed us to celebrate the achievements of our outstanding women engineers.

Apprenticeship Toolkit Launch and People Like Me Apprentice Pack


On International Women in Engineering Day, we launched the ApprenticeshipToolkit, a practical resource for employers and training providers looking to get more women in STEM apprenticeships. Archie Bethel, CEO of Babcock International Group, described the toolkit as “a valuable asset to employers striving to increase diversity in their workforce.”

As part of the launch, a new People like me in Apprenticeships pack was released with one of the first training sessions delivered to 11 apprentices at WISE member, the Leeds College of Building. #9PercentIsNotEnough Conference IET Birmingham

The #9PercentIsNotEnough Conference and Workshops will provided a platform to disseminate their best practice through 9 practical workshops, panel discussions and case studies. There will also be plenty of networking time during the day and into the evening drinks reception.

Women in Engineering Day at University Of Wolverhampton

Sixty girls from schools across the Midlands turned out for the International Women in Engineering day at Wolverhampton University's Shropshire Innovation Centre. The youngsters aged 12 to 17 learned about the opportunities available through the university's motor racing team, about the work students are doing in the field of robotics, and the careers available in hi-tech industries such as Formula 1 racing and aerospace.

MACE Women in Engineering Event for WISE


The School of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) in the University of Manchester marked International Women in Engineering Day by celebrating it with female engineers. MACE hosted an event focusing on the careers and successes of women in engineering on 20th June. The purpose is to inspire, attract, recruit and retain more women in engineering and technology.
