Professor Jane Clarke, Professor of Molecular Biophysics, University of Cambridge

With an international reputation in protein structure research, Jane is only the third woman to be appointed Professor of Chemistry in the University of Cambridge. She combines her role as Assistant Head of Department with leading her research group and tireless support and mentoring of female academics.

Jane has been instrumental in driving change in policies and practices including initiatives to support young female academics. The impact is already evident with two out of five lecturer positions secured by women this year and three quarters of fellowship applicants supported by the department being female. Not afraid to challenge the status quo, Jane will if needs be say things that are unpopular: “I am impatient to see change – we have waited too long. There is no longer any justification to sit back and let things happen.”
