WISE Knowledge Sharing Event at Alstom

Alstom: the early stages of a journey to improving gender diversity in the workplace

25 September 2014

WISE held another successful knowledge sharing event on 25 September this time at Stafford. It was kindly hosted by corporate members Alstom and included 4 fascinating presentations as well as some lively discussion and sharing of ideas. Susan Evans talked about setting up the very successful Women in Alstom network which covers all their sites around the UK and within the year has led a cultural survey of the business and held a conference for over 100 women. Simone Bares told us about some of the Corporate Social Responsibility projects and how they can encourage a diverse workforce and we then heard from two female engineers with their different experiences of working in this industry.

We had some good discussion around the topic of engaging men in the diversity agenda as well as how to encourage girls to think about working in these male dominated worlds. Daughters to Work Day (April 23rd 2015) was encouraged and opportunities from links to MOSI (Manchester Museum of Science & Industry) were explored.

Thank you to Alstom for hosting and providing lunch.
