BAE Systems | Engineering Taster Week | Lancashire

No description available

Event Information

As part of activities for Year of Engineer WISE members BAE Systems are running an Engineering Taster Week (ETW). Warton's Engineering Taster Week (ETW) is a five-day, residential course designed to offer students a glimpse into the day-to-day work of an engineer.

Each Taster Week is held across our sites in Warton and Samlesbury, Lancashire, with accommodation provided nearby. During the week, successful applicants will work in small groups on an exciting and comprehensive engineering project; with the aim of producing a competitive bid for a contract. The week ends with a project presentation to peers, parents and engineering representatives from BAE Systems.

Throughout the week, speakers from across the business will provide an overview of the work carried out by the company, as well as opportunities to tour some of our most advanced facilities including the final assembly of Eurofighter Typhoon.

Overall, the ETW's provide a rare opportunity to see first-hand how some of the world's most advanced military aircraft are designed and produced.

BAE Systems in Warton

Warton, in the North West of England, is a site within our Air sector. Warton site houses a large range of systems integration, final assembly and flight test facilities for products including Typhoon and Hawk aircraft. Specialist test facilities include a comprehensive range of hot gas and systems laboratories, wind tunnels and electronic warfare facilities.

The ETW's are organised entirely by undergraduate engineering placement students, taking time out from university to work for us on a year-long industrial placement scheme. The undergraduates will be your first point of contact during the taster week. Throughout the week, there will be many opportunities to discuss with them (and other BAE Systems personnel) about their career choices and engineering experiences.

Applicants must be:

  • UK Residents
  • 16 to 18 years (at the time of the weeks)
  • Currently participating in full-time education
  • Interested in pursuing engineering through an apprenticeship or higher education

Travel & Expenses

The cost of the week is covered by BAE Systems, including accommodation and food; however students are responsible for arranging their travel to and from our Samlesbury site on the Monday morning and Friday evening respectively. All other travel between sites throughout the week will be provided.
