Supporting a professional body to promote diversity in the transport and highways sector
Described by Lord Ahmed as “A fascinating and penetrating analysis of employment practices in the sector”, 'Routes to diversity and inclusion', a toolkit WISE produced for the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, was launched at CIHT’s Skills Summit on 21 October 2015.
“I cannot recommend it to you too highly”, said Lord Ahmed, Minister for Transport.
The toolkit includes a summary of the business case, practical guidance on data gathering, attracting and retaining a more diverse workforce and on changing culture and behaviour.
The first of its kind for the sector, CIHT commissioned WISE to establish a baseline, collate examples of good practice from their corporate partners and write up the results, with input from a steering group. The project was funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering.
