Who are Lockheed Martin UK?

Headquartered in London, Lockheed Martin UK is a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 97,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. What projects / schemes / initiatives to support women's recruitment, retention and progression in STEM are Lockheed Martin UK involved in?

Lockheed Martin is committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers, space explorers and astronauts and we regularly engage in STEM activities. Our Generation Beyond programme, developed with Discovery Education, provides interactive resources to teachers at schools across the country to help them educate pupils about space. We have STEM ambassadors at our key locations who work with local schools to encourage young people to think about the opportunities STEM careers can offer. We also convene a UK Inclusion Council which meets quarterly to discuss ways we can continually improve how we operate in the UK to ensure all our employees are valued equally and, as importantly, feel valued equally. Our initiatives focus on creating a workplace culture where employees feel welcome, respected, engaged and encouraged to bring their full selves to work to drive business success. To achieve our aim of increasing the proportion of women holding senior roles within our organisation, we need to encourage more women to consider careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Over the past few years we have focussed on establishing strong early career programmes, which have seen numerous Graduates and Apprentices join across both technical and non-technical roles, making up over 6% of our UK workforce.

Why did Lockheed Martin UK join WISE?

“LMUK have joined WISE because we believe in a fully diverse, representative workforce and hope to contribute to a positive shift in the number and status of girls and women in STEM. We are committed to diversity and inclusion and expect to both support and benefit from the WISE community.”

Neil Hebron - Director Engineering and Technology & Chairman of the UK Early Careers Board
