What projects / schemes / initiatives to support women's recruitment, retention and progression in STEM are Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd involved in?
Sir Robert McAlpine believes that excellence will be achieved through recognising the value of every individual. We are committed to providing an inclusive culture that embraces diversity and provides a fair and respectful working environment. People from different backgrounds and with different experiences bring fresh ideas and innovation that contribute to the success of our business.
We recognise the need to start early if we are to increase the level of female participation in STEM activity. We therefore have a number of STEM ambassadors available to go into schools and promote interest in a career in the construction industry. This activity has included presentations at St Albans School for Girls, running a construction challenge for sixth formers at a number of schools in Kent and offering work experience for school students.
We are a founding partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School which includes training on equality, diversity and inclusion. This ensures that we can influence our supply chain partners, which is an important aspect of working in construction.
We are providing a range of training for employees on diversity issues, from unconscious bias training for the Board to e-learning modules for staff throughout the company.
We have established a Women’s network that will support and advise the company as it develops a 10 steps action plan as well as providing a collaborative support network for women working in SRM.
Why did Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd join WISE?
Sir Robert McAlpine fully supports the WISE aspiration of increasing the participation, contribution and success of women in STEM activity. We believe that membership of WISE can help us make this a reality for women working in the construction industry and in particular for SRM.
