Fixed term appointment for 18 months
The School of Applied Sciences at the University of Huddersfield is looking to appoint a PDRA in Chemistry. The main focus of the research programme will be to improve our understanding of the uptake of lead metal in tap waters. This will be achieved using water quality data from customers’ properties, laboratory pipe rig experiments, mineral layer analysis, crystal growth, solubility experiments and computer solubility models. The aim is to reduce the concentration of lead in tap water, specifically in the geographical area served by Yorkshire Water. The utility manages the collection, treatment and distribution of 1.3 billion litres of drinking water to 5 million people and are funding this research.
You will have experience of crystal growth and analysis, be interested in environmental chemistry and keen to apply your knowledge to a high impact practical problem. Lead in the environment is a global issue.
You will need good laboratory skills, be prepared to take the initiative, have excellent written and communication skills and be willing to give regular talks to Yorkshire Water.
The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles and the promotion of equality and diversity and is proud to hold a Bronze Athena SWAN award.
