Overview

We are seeking a C++ Software Developer to join our Instrument Control team to support the development of our scientific products through the design and development of instrument control software. Our Instrument Control function is highly collaborative, operating in an interdisciplinary environment which integrates mechanical, electrical, optical and systems engineering.

This role offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies such as modern C++, C#, HTML5, Node.js, Angular, Javascript, Linux etc. Our ICS team is constantly exploring better ways to develop software using techniques such as pairing and mob programming.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain software developed by the ICS team.
  • Work in close partnership with software test engineers to improve product quality.
  • Provide code and supporting documentation in accordance with the software development processes and codes of practice.
  • Help internal and external users by providing software and technical support
  • Identify opportunities for improved productivity, efficiency and quality.
  • Build strong working relationships with other departments.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a science, engineering or computing related subject.
  • Proven development experience in C++.
  • Passionate about software development which you can clearly convey by your actions and experiences.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Self motivated and like being part of a team
  • Excellent communication and decision making skills.

Desirable but not essential skills to have:

  • Development experience in C#.
  • Experience of developing Linux OS/device drivers.
  • Experience of developing control software and experience with an RTOS.
  • Experience developing software for analytical instrumentation.
