School of Engineering
Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Mechanical Engineering
Salary: £33,518 to £56,950 – Grade 7/8/9
The School of Engineering combines 3 academic disciplines: Mechanical and Marine Engineering; Civil and Coastal Engineering; and Navigation and Maritime Science.
The School has an international research profile in offshore renewable energy, autonomous marine robotics, composites and metallic materials, and coastal engineering, with access to excellent research facilities. The University’s £19M marine building, which opened in 2012, houses exceptional marine testing facilities within the state-of-the-art wave tanks and a new full mission ship bridge simulator. The University also operates a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster to support numerical modelling and CFD applications. These facilities are further to others within the School and Faculty that include the Advanced Composites Manufacturing Centre, the Advanced Materials Characterisation and Electron Microscopy Centre, and a new Marine Station development. Engineering research within the School is centred on the following four areas: the COAST Engineering Research Group, the Autonomous Marine Systems Research Group, the Materials and Structures Research Group and the Engineering and Society Research Group.
Among the School’s accredited undergraduate mechanical engineering programmes are BSc, BEng and MEng honours degrees in Marine Technology, Marine and Composites Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Composites, Mechanical Design and Manufacture. We also deliver a new MSc in Advanced Engineering Design.
The School is now looking to appoint a Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor to join the Mechanical Engineering team to teach across the core of Mechanical Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to identify and develop research into original areas of enquiry, and to enhance and complement our present research expertise. This currently ranges across composite materials, mechanical engineering, marine engineering and technology, marine renewable energy, advanced control systems engineering, industrial dynamics, autonomous marine robots and integrated navigation guidance systems. You will be joining a growing and enthusiastic team of researchers and professional engineers.
Applications are invited from experienced academics and/or professional engineers, who can demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for innovation in higher education and to the development of the next generation of Professional Engineers.
For an informal discussion please contact Dr Alistair Cree, Associate Head (Mechanical Engineering) by email email@example.com or telephone +44 (0)1752 586175.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week.
You will be appointed to a job description within a range aligned with Plymouth's Academic Career Pathways, according to your knowledge, experience and skills in relation to the key accountabilities. Could you please indicate a preference and tailor your application to your preferred job description.
Closing date: 12 Midnight, Thursday 8th February 2018
